Doctor appointments, gender reveals, things to buy, books to read… there are so many things to do when parents-to-be are awaiting their bundle of joy. Of course, on top of all these things, the mom-to-be also need to handle all the changes that are happening to her body. Whether its the growing tummy, swollen hands and feet, or even the hormones that trigger cravings, there’s a lot going on in her life.

Throwing a baby shower for the mom-to-be is a wonderful way for her to relax and bask in her pregnancy glow while celebrating with her loved ones. Whether you’re a mother yourself, or perhaps you don’t know where to begin with a baby shower, we have come up with 5 tips to throw a relaxing and beautiful baby shower.

5 Tips

  1. The mother is the focus

While it is called a baby shower, the focus of the party should be on the mom to be. Often times it’s easy to focus only on the decorations or the type of games that will be fun for the guests. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is to make the mom-to-be feel loved and special. From choosing the date, to the venue, to her expectations, be sure to communicate everything with her. We do suggest that the baby shower be held earlier rather than later so she will be more comfortable and have more energy to full enjoy the shower.

  2. Invitation is the intro to the shower

What sets the tone of the party and the expectation your guests will have all begins in the invitations. While you don’t need to go for a full set of fancy invitations, it is important to choose one that will let your guests know what type of baby shower it will be. Be sure to include all necessary information regarding the event, as well as a contact email or number so that guests have a way of contacting you if they have a question or concern.

3. Have one focal point/area and theme

One of the easiest way to have a cohesive and beautiful baby shower is to stay to one theme or colour. You may want to incorporate various things into the shower, but the more colours or themes that are included, the harder it will be to keep things flowing and looking cohesive. Once you have decided on a theme or a colour you would like to use for the baby shower, find a place at the venue that will be the focal point. This will be the place where photos will be taken and perhaps also where the food will be laid out. While it is always nice to have a room fully decorated, it can be quite difficult. To have one area nicely decorated will be impactful than having the whole room decorated sparsely. One of the easiest way to set your focal area from the rest of the room is to create a backdrop. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but do keep in mind to keep it wide enough to fit the table/guests as they are taking pictures.

4. Activities that are fun but also meaningful

There are plenty of games and activities for baby shower that can be found online. Some are cute while others might be less appealing for the guests to participate in. It is nice to have a balance of activities that is fun and some that are more meaningful. A creative activity that many moms appreciate is to have you write a note of encouragement to her or to the future baby. This will bring back wonderful memories for years to come and also let the baby know how much they are loved before they were even born. Regardless of what type of activities you want to include, be sure to check with the mom-to-be to ensure that it is what she wants, or if they are other things she hopes to do in that time instead. Ultimately, there doesn’t necessarily need to games or some sort of activity if she prefers a more relaxing time.

5. Incorporate thank you gifts into the design

It’s always nice to end off the baby shower with a small gift for the guests. One way to include these gifts as part of the shower as well, is to have it do double duty as decorations. They can been small plants or even sweet treats that was used as centrepieces during the shower. Another way is to have guests create or customize their gifts during the shower so it can also be used as an activity during the shower.

These are just a few suggestions or tips that we think will help you plan a baby shower. The baby shower will come to an end in a few hours, but the memories will be what the mom-to-be holds on to even after the baby is born. Afterall, the most important thing is that the mom-to-be is happy and feels that it was right celebratory event for her.
