2020 was difficult for many engaged couples, especially for those who decided to postpone their weddings to 2021 only to realize that still, they aren’t able to have their dream wedding. For our couple T&M, they planned to have their wedding this past May, but while we were all hopeful for a bigger celebration, there were still restrictions for only 10 guests.
T&M decided to move forward with the wedding ceremony with just their closest family members and postponed their reception to a later date. As they wanted to keep their original venue for their reception, we needed to look for a new venue for their ceremony.
We originally designed their wedding ceremony to be a combination of classic and modern. The classic comes from their venue’s architecture, and the elements of the decor and design will be more minimal and modern. For the new ceremony location, we wanted a location that can showcase not only the minimal and modern design that we had done for T&M, but also a beautiful place for them to celebrate this special day with their close ones.
The Venue: Polygon Art Gallery
With a clean and minimal interior design, but with interesting architectural designs, Polygon Gallery was the ideal choice. The gallery room with floor to ceiling windows allowed us to choose to have a closed indoor space or to open it up to enjoy the Seaspan Pavillion and balcony as well. With a breathtaking view of Vancouver downtown skyline and plenty of sunlight streaming in through the room, it was the perfect space for our couple to say their vows and celebrate with an intimate wedding ceremony.
Minimalistic Wedding Design
Our design for this Polygon Gallery wedding is something clean and modern. We wanted to play with different textures and lines while keeping everything minimal yet romantic. The colour palette focused on neutrals like cream, beige, and touches of dusty pink. We also decided to use mainly florals for the decor to give it the feminine touch to balance out the straight and clean lines that are in the room and other architectural structures.
For both the bridal bouquet and the floral installation, to keep it clean and elegant, we went for a bloom heavy design with minimal greenery and foliage. In addition to the type of floral design, we also chose ghost chairs to give it the airy and modern feeling.
The main focal point in the design is the two large floral installations used during the ceremony. On one side is a metallic frame covered with bursts of florals throughout and at the bottom. Complementing it is the low ground floral design that helps to soften the sharp lines on the frame. With a moss covering at the base of both floral structures, it gives the floral design a slightly more relaxed and natural look. With the design of these two floral installations, we wanted to create the illusion of our couple being encircled by the florals.
An important point of the floral design was the use of flowers with unique shapes and design; like the orchid flower. We also asked for roses that have their petals reflexed to give it a more unique and voluminous look. A different and unique style that allows roses to go from the usual romantic style to a more chic and modern look.
One of our favourite floral pieces is the bridal bouquet. We asked for a floral bouquet that was unique and modern. Something elegant and romantic, but still had an interesting shape and modern touches. Our florist chose to use the same unique flowers in the floral installation to create a stunning and unique bridal bouquet. It was soft and feminie from the dusty pink and reflexed roses, but the white lace leaf flower and the orchids gave it that unique shape and soft slight cascading effect to the bouquet.
A wedding filled with love
An intimate wedding can be beautiful and full of joy and love. Perhaps our favourite part of this Polygon Gallery wedding is when our bride first saw her bouquet, her eyes filled with tears and said, “this is even more beautiful than I imagined!”
Sometimes changes bring surprises and unexpected happiness, and we believe this is definitely one of those moments. We can’t wait to continue to celebrate with T&M with more beauty and joy when they have their reception!
