Honour & Blessing Events

Honour and Blessing Events was dreamed of and orchestrated by two sisters, with the belief that events and weddings should be elegant, breathtaking, and remarkable. As event and wedding planners, we believe that organization is just as important as design, trends can complement traditions - and the journey is as meaningful as the day itself.

Beautiful Micro Wedding in Vancouver

Planning a micro wedding

Even though there were challenges and difficulties, we were honoured to have the chance to plan and design this micro wedding in Vancouver. Diana and Chris reached out to us in March 2020 to have us plan and design their intimate wedding celebration. Who would have known that in a little less than 2 weeks later, the whole world will be turned upside down. It seemed like no matter where you were, all celebrations and festivities will now have to be postponed or replanned to adhere to new regulations and restrictions.

We were optimistic that by October 2020, things would have returned to some level of normalcy and that gatherings would be a little less restrictive. However, we felt it would be best to keep a lower guest count to ensure that the wedding could still take place in case the restrictions were not lifted.

What we didn’t anticipate is that after we had finished designing and planning for the celebration, the wedding venue had a case of covid from one of their guests and we could no longer have the wedding there. But for our couple, they still wanted to have their wedding despite the sudden changes and new uncertainties. With less than 2 months out from the wedding date, we secured a new location and also redesigned the wedding to suit the new location.

The Design

For Diana and Chris, we created a colour palate with creams and lighter tones for a feminine and dreamy touch, and added in some darker and bolder tones to create a romantic autumn atmosphere. Setting the tone with the invitation suite, we went with a personalized monogram of the couple’s initials in a dusty purple tone with calligraphy for a classic and timeless style. To bring a special touch from the wedding day, we used a miniature version of the painting from the reception room to style along with our invitation.

Wedding Tea Ceremony

An important part of the celebration was the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. We wanted it to be an elegant and romantic tea ceremony so that it will flow with the rest of the design. To do this, we kept the decor minimal and focused on using fresh flowers.

We hung the traditional double happiness symbol in a clean and modern style along with some floral arrangement on the back of the chairs for those who the couple will be serving tea to. Two floral arrangements by the chairs to tie the decor with the rest of the reception but also to bring a touch of modern style to the tea ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony

For the ceremony, the couple wanted to keep it as minimal as possible and wanted to focus more on the reception. They also weren’t that comfortable with having too much attention on themselves. Instead of having an arch or hanging arrangement surrounding the couple, we designed overgrown floral arrangements to go at the ends of the long tables as the focal point.

Reception

For a warm and inviting atmosphere, we chose to use long tapered candles in varying heights and shades which was complemented by the low natural floral centerpieces. Tying it all together  are the handwritten calligraphy on escort cards, personalized menus, and gift tags.

Our couple wanted to ensure that guests have a wonderful experience, from the beautiful decor to the details they will see when they find their seat. For the wedding cake, we wanted something that’s remarkable and special but not take away from the rest of the decor. We chose to have a two tiered cake, adorned with wispy translucent petals that give it a unique and feminine touch.

Wedding Day Details

Sharing the joy and love not only with their family and friends, our couple also supported local small businesses through their wedding. For her dress, our bride chose a local bridal designer to design and create a blush wedding gown adorned with delicate lace. Finished off with a long row of buttons at the back and a flowy veil, it was the perfect elegant and timeless style for our bride.

For the gifts for their guests, we proposed handmade soap and chocolates. From a small local company, the soap was created in a unique dome shape with swirls of gold within shades of pink and purples. The chocolates were also handmade from a well loved local chocolatier.

It was a shorter celebration with a smaller crowd, but the love and happiness that filled the room that day was so much more than that. From the traditional Chinese tea ceremony when the father of the bride couldn’t hold back his tears, to the laughter that echoed throughout the night, we are so happy our couple decided to go through with their wedding.

They had to make sacrifices and compromises like many other couples who decided to have their wedding this year. But this intimate wedding once again reflects the beauty and resilience of love in the face of uncertainty and struggles.

We are honoured to have this Vancouver micro wedding featured on Bridal Musings.
